We are working on a digital and interactive Christ-centered curriculum (called SACCE) for the South African Christians families (The draft books are here). Indeed, South Africa already has access to curriculums of academic quality that are touted as Christ-centered. However, for the below listed reasons, I feel there potentially remains a need for another Christian-Centered curriculum considerations.

  1. Many nationally marketed curriculums touted as Christ-Centered would appear to be high-priced for one – and thereby leaving out low income Christian families who would equally appreciate a homeschooling option due to lake of access to a worthy local Christian school.
  2. While the free, Easy Peasy All-In-One Curriculum would seem like a fair starting point for the very low income class, it appears to be more American oriented – having no Christ-Centred materials offerings for South African non-English language subjects for one. When registering with the DBE for homeschool, we have found that Mathematics, Home Language, 1st Additional Language and Life Skills are prime requisites for the Foundation and Intermediate phases. So, as comprehensive as the author may have meant for it to be, EP does not seem to be a complete fit for us South African Christians, in my understanding.
  3. Unfortunately, not all that is labelled as Christ-Centered truly/soundly is. I have not closely studied any of the nationally marketed Christian curriculums but do already fear that some on the list may fail badly when candidly reviewed for doctrinal soundness. Yes, we have in our journey even encountered a Christian school that did not even use a Christian curriculum – but used that same limping one found in public schools. Where, for example, the likes of Mandela are upheld as models of ‘good’ leadership – and not the Christian likes of John Wesley, etc. This is just a way to demonstrate that a Christian-labelled something may still contain a surprisingly high amount of ignorance within.
  4. I do not think any of the South African paid ‘Christian’ curriculum providers grant discounted or free access to Christian families that simply do not afford it (though have need for one). Well, that is something that we contemplate doing in the name of Christian ministry. Also, with concerns raised on point 2 above, low income Christian folks may feel compelled to settle for the shameful public schools curriculum, unfortunately.

Book drafts are available here (Pending Christian doctrinal fact check and alignment, though already of high academic quality)

Features of SACCE

  • Christian Centric Curriculum
  • While we may not necessarily mention God or his Christ in every so line or page, we aim to never make assertions that contradict Christian doctrine, ethics or values. This includes the avoidance of featured images that may assert against the same or offend sensually. A criteria over which public school textbooks fail drastically.
  • Seek to be accessible to both Christian with ample resources, as well as those on shoe string budgets. We aim to do this through subsidies and exemptions where necessary.
  • Advanced AI tools powered development
  • Highly affordable (freely accessible where necessary)
  • Highly accessible
  • South African oriented
  • CAPS aligned
  • Auto-grading system for most tasks
  • Interactive
  • Online based
  • Christian ministry (as opposed to a pure ‘for-profit’)
  • Free (only buy an access token if you find SACCE of both academic and Christian value)

SACCE Development

Because none of us are subject or language experts (though we all been to university), we are outsourcing needed expertise for the said curriculum development.
